Stronger Skills And Safer Plants As LCC Invests In Its People

A cement plant may have heavy machinery, technology and equipment, but behind it all are the people who keep it going each and every day. Training at Libyan Cement Company has recently been focused on these people, offering employees more opportunities to develop practical skills they can directly apply to their jobs.
ㅤ
One of the latest programmes focused on something every industrial workplace needs to be prepared for, fire and emergency response. Practical firefighting training was provided to employees, where they learned how to deal with different types of fires and which extinguishing method to use and how to respond quickly and correctly in an emergency.
ㅤ
It’s the kind of training you hope employees will never have to use in a real-life situation, but knowing what to do when things go wrong can make a lot of difference. The goal for LCC is to make that awareness part of the everyday work and help employees feel prepared to protect themselves, their colleagues and the facilities around them.
ㅤ
At Al Fataiah Cement Plant, the focus has also turned to a different kind of practical knowledge. For the first time at the plant engineers and technicians were trained in the special discipline of measuring vibration in rotating machinery. The course combines technical instruction with practical work on the actual machinery and equipment employees deal with on site.
ㅤ
It’s a simple idea. Technical teams use variations in vibration to understand the performance of the machine and to identify the onset of a problem. During the course, employees learned how to measure and analyze those vibrations, to identify operational issues and to use what they discover to help improve the performance and reliability of equipment.
ㅤ
This course at Al Fataiah is the first stage of a wider interactive training program aimed at promoting knowledge sharing among employees, enhancing their technical skills, and integrating training more effectively into daily operations.
ㅤ
The two programs are quite different, but they have the same idea. For tougher industrial operations you want people who know their equipment, understand the risks around them and have the confidence to react when something isn’t right.
ㅤ
Developing the people behind its plants and operations is as important as LCC’s further development. Because at the end of the day it is their knowledge, experience and judgment that keeps a plant running safely and reliably each day.
