Looking After the People Behind the Work

Behind every production line, behind every maintenance project, are the people who keep the operation running every day. The Libyan Cement Company last week announced two initiatives aimed at improving the daily working environment of employees and contractors, with a focus on workplace safety and employee well-being.
One change was to relocate contractor workers into new accommodation within the factory site. Earlier the workers were accommodated in a building outside the site, thus they had to walk long distances and cross a public road daily to reach their work areas. The company has reduced these daily risks by moving the accommodation closer to the place of work, whilst providing a safer and more comfortable place to live.
The change may appear simple, but small improvements such as these can make a meaningful difference. Shorter travel between accommodation and the workplace improves safety and simplifies daily routines for the teams doing physically demanding maintenance and support work.
During the same period, the company also settled all outstanding financial settlements, including the payment due to Al-Waha Insurance Company for employees’ medical insurance. This ensures continued access to healthcare services for employees and their families, while also highlighting the company’s commitment to meeting its financial obligations.
Projects often capture attention for new buildings, upgraded equipment or production milestones. Equally important, however, are decisions that make the working environment better for the people behind those projects. We are taking tangible action to support the workforce every day by providing safer accommodation and retaining employee benefits.
These initiatives demonstrate that investment is not limited to facilities and infrastructure as Libyan Cement Company continues to modernise its operations. It also means creating a work environment where employees and contractors have the support they need to perform their jobs safely and confidently.
