More Than Foundations. The Benghazi Steel Complex

Change is happening at the Benghazi Iron and Steel Complex. As work continues on the site more of the project is beginning to come above ground, making it easier to see the scale of the development. The foundation work is still an important part of the project, but more and more attention is being paid to the buildings and structures that will eventually bring the plant into operation.
Foundation work, backfilling and pouring concrete are all proceeding on schedule, and steel columns and beams are becoming more common through various parts of the complex. What was only just being prepared not long ago is now beginning to look like the future steel plant.
Concrete pouring of Cooling Towers and Cooling Gas Mist Eliminators is done. Work is in progress on Pipe Rack, CDRI Silos, Air Separation Unit and Dust Collector F73. Each area has its own role in the plant but together they are forming another piece of a much larger project that is steadily coming together.
Inside the work is getting more detailed and complex. Works are ongoing to install steel in the Reduction Area, CDRI warehouses and electrical substations. Finishing works continue in the Main Control Building, Maintenance Building and electrical rooms related to the future 220kV substation. Crews in the mechanical trades are starting to put equipment into the Oxide Storage Area, another indication the project is slowly shifting away from heavy construction and toward getting the plant ready to operate.
Of course none of this can happen without the people on the ground. The project involves over 260 engineers, technicians and workers, with each one contributing to a different part of the development. Much of their work is behind the scenes, but every completed task brings the project one step closer to the next phase.
As the project progresses, more of the Benghazi Iron and Steel Complex is beginning to take shape, and it’s clear that those efforts are paying off.
