A New Industrial Giant Is Rising in Benghazi
The Tosyali-SULB complex is now rising higher above ground, equipment is being installed and the different areas of the future plant are beginning to come together.

And there is a lot happening outside of the big buildings. Work is in progress on water treatment and raw water facilities, the CDRI Passivation Silos, the 220 kV Substation and the Main Control Room. Each is only one part of the overall development, but together they give a sense of just how much infrastructure it takes to build a complex of this scale for industry.

Further progress is also being made on equipment installation. Oxygen tanks are now being installed in the Air Separation Unit, work continues on the stacker-reclaimer in the Oxide Storage Area and steel columns and beams are being installed in the Reduction Area.

Tosyali SULB is in an exciting time as the progress is becoming more tangible. The massive industrial structures and equipment are being assembled on the foundations that once dominated the site. The different bits are beginning to look like bits of one great big operation, one at a time.

There’s a huge on-the-ground effort behind all this. Engineers, technicians and workers of Tosyali SULB, Benestruct and the contractors participating in the project are working simultaneously in several areas. That’s the kind of coordination it takes to pull together a development of this size, especially as more pieces of the complex move ahead in tandem.

What is important about Tosyali SULB is not what it is now but what it could be when construction is complete. The complex is being built as a major extension of Libya's heavy industry sector, aiming to increase domestic industrial capabilities, support the local market and contribute to long-term economic development.

There’s still a long way to go, but the project is already a preview of what it could be. Tosyali SULB is becoming an important new feature of Benghazi’s industrial skyline, with industrial buildings going up and more equipment arriving and being installed.
