Benghazi’s Steel Ambitions Are Becoming Reality

The Tosyali-SULB steel complex near Benghazi has been busy. Construction continues on the site, with more buildings going up and equipment being installed. While at the same time the company hosted a meeting with the Turkish Consul General in Benghazi to discuss the project and its future plans.
Together with construction work, Tosyali-SULB hosted a meeting with the Turkish Consul General in Benghazi, Hussein Hancher, at its headquarters. He met with Nader Al-Jahawi and Mr. Shanar to learn about the progress of the project and discuss what the company has planned for the future. They discussed the potential to expand production capacity as the project develops. With Libya rebuilding and developing its infrastructure, more locally made steel could help construction companies get the materials they need. Business cooperation between Libya and Turkey was also discussed during the meeting, with Hancher saying the consulate will support industrial investment and help companies overcome any challenges they may face during the process.
There have been a number of recent developments on the construction site, one of which is the completion of the deep foundations. These are the supports built into the ground holding the heavy structures and machinery that will be used at the plant. With this part of the work now complete, construction teams have been continuing to pour concrete and install steel structures and work on the buildings that will support production.
Workers have been assembling steel columns and beams in the main production area, including structures to support pipes between different parts of the complex. Work is also ongoing around the air compressor room and seawater desalination plant, and concrete has been poured in some of the storage and transfer areas. Each of these facilities has a specific purpose but they will all have to work together to keep the plant running.
The buildings around the site are also coming along, with finishing touches being put on the walls of the main control building and electrical facilities, other teams are putting metal coverings on the maintenance building and storage bins.
There are many different parts of the complex being built at once, there is a lot of coordination that goes into it. Tosyali-SULB is collaborating with Benistruct and other contractors, which are involved in all stages from concrete construction to steel installation and equipment assembly. Some areas are complete, and work can move forward to the next stage, bringing the site closer to being ready for production.
Tosyali-SULB’s current challenges are completing the plant and planning for the post-construction phase. Work is ongoing on site and discussions about future development are underway and the company is edging closer to the launch of its new steel complex.
