Planning Below Ground, Protecting the Skies Above

Planning Below Ground, Protecting the Skies Above

Work is continuing on the Tosyali-SULB steel complex near Benghazi and the company is also preparing the infrastructure that will be needed to support the plant once it begins operating. One of these steps is to plan the route of the natural gas pipeline that will supply the gas in the future. Tosyali-SULB representatives met with the Civil Aviation Authority of Libya to discuss the proposed route for the pipeline and make sure it is compliant with the required safety standards.

Discussions were centred on finding a suitable site for the pipeline that would not disrupt the operations of Benina International Airport and the new Tika Airport. Both sides looked at maps, engineering drawings and geographical plans to have a closer look at the proposed route during the meeting. They also reviewed the coordinates and technical boundaries of the pipeline with the help of an interactive display to confirm that the planned location complies with the requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Natural gas will play an important role in running the steel complex, so finding a suitable route for the pipeline is an important part of the project. The route needs to allow the plant to receive the gas it needs without affecting nearby airport operations. During the meeting, Tosyali-SULB and the Civil Aviation Authority discussed the technical details and agreed to continue working together as the project moves forward.

Planning the pipeline is one of the many jobs involved in preparing a large industrial facility for operation for Tosyali-SULB. Alongside the construction of the steel complex itself, the company needs to work with authorities to ensure the infrastructure is well-planned.

Overall the meeting allowed both sides to review the plans and make another step forward to finishing the project, with both sides working to find a pipeline route that can support the steel project while still prioritizing aviation safety.
