The Whistle Blows On A Busy Week At Libyan Cement Company

The Whistle Blows On A Busy Week At Libyan Cement Company

A cement plant is filled with machinery, equipment and production systems, but the people who work around them every day are just as important. This week for Libyan Cement Company was about reinforcing safety knowledge at Al-Fataiah Cement Plant while employees from across the company were brought together in a different environment, on the football pitch.

The Occupational Health and Safety Department in Al-Fataiah has started an intensive training program to educate employees on the situation they might face in an industrial environment. The sessions include workplace safety risks recognition, accident prevention, emergency response and proper use of personal protective equipment. Training also includes safe operation of machines and equipment.

The goal is to make safety a concept employees can relate to in real-world terms. Distributing that knowledge throughout the entire workforce can help reduce accidents and injuries, while protecting the people and facilities that are part of everyday production. The program is part of LCC’s broader work on workforce development.

The company’s own football league started, with teams from different departments, sections and contracting companies. The competition has more matches to come in the coming period before the eventual final.

The football league gives workers who usually meet during production, maintenance, administration or other day-to-day duties the chance to spend time together in a totally different environment. It creates a bit of friendly competition and also allows colleagues from different areas of the company to communicate and work together outside of their normal roles.

That is the ultimate link between two activities that might otherwise seem very different. Safety training is all about giving people the knowledge they need to work. It allows them to build relationships when they get away from the football league.

Both are part of making LCC a place where people can work safely, know the people around them and feel part of the wider company.
