Equipment and Steel Installation Progress at Tosyali SULB
More of the project is starting to rise above ground and work at the Tosyali-SULB iron and steel complex in Benghazi is beginning to change gradually. With the main piling work out of the way, attention is shifting to concrete, structural steel and the various facilities that will eventually comprise the plant.
Many parts of the complex are being worked on simultaneously. Reinforcement and concrete casting work is taking place around the CDRI Passivation Silos, water desalination facilities and NGPT Area. Work is also continuing on the Main Control Room, the main electrical substation and other transformer substations around the site. The columns and beams are going in and the Reduction Area, the Pipe Rack Area and the CDRI Warehouse are starting to take shape, giving these parts of the complex a much more defined shape than they had in the earlier stages of construction.
Some areas are getting into mechanical installation as well. In the Air Separation Unit, installation of an oxygen tank is in progress, and the work of the Bucket Wheel Stacker and Reclaimer in the Oxide Storage Area is in progress.
What’s happening across the site now is a combination of various stages. In some places, concrete work is still going on. In others, steel structures are going up. In places where the buildings are more advanced, equipment is starting to arrive and be put in place.
This allows us to follow the progress from one part of the complex to another. The project is no longer just about what is happening below ground. More of the buildings, structures and equipment that will make up the steel complex are beginning to take their place across the site.
