LCC Teams Step In After Fire At Al-Qawarsha Substation
A fire at the Al-Qawarsha electrical substation in Benghazi was quickly tackled by a team from Libyan Cement Company which stepped in to help.
The fire was sparked after an electrical explosion at the substation that is located some 14 kilometres from LCC’s Hawari plants. As soon as the call came in the company’s safety, firefighting and ambulance teams were sent to the scene.
When they arrived, the firefighters tried to contain the fire before it spread any further. The ambulance team meanwhile, assisted some of the workers from the General Electricity Company of Libya affected by the smoke and gas. They were given first aid and sent to hospital for examination and treatment.
What stands out about this story is that the emergency had nothing to do with LCC’s own plants. The company could have simply focused on its own facilities, but instead, its teams went where they were needed. The training, equipment and experience they typically use to keep LCC’s workers safe were put to work helping people outside the company.
Officials from the Al-Qawarsha substation later thanked LCC for its support. The quick response helped to prevent the situation from getting worse and allowed technical teams to start preparing for repairs and getting the substation back in operation.
Perhaps not at the cement plants, but moments like this show another side to LCC’s presence in Benghazi. And when you have a company that has trained firefighters, safety teams and medical support nearby, that doesn’t just matter for the people working in the company. But those same resources can make a significant difference when something happens in the surrounding community.
