Hawari’s Second Production Line Returns After More Than 13 Years
The first reactivation of the second production line of the Hawari Cement Plant in over 13 years. Now the heating flame has been lit, the beginning of the line’s slow return after a long period of rehabilitation and preparation.
The line had been closed for over a decade and restarting it meant overcoming technical obstacles far beyond routine maintenance. During the rehabilitation process, LCC’s engineers, technicians and staff solved those problems, some of which were expected to require specialist companies from overseas.
This makes the line’s return particularly important to the people who worked on it. Most of the rehabilitation was based on the experience already available in the company with local teams carrying out difficult technical work and finding solutions on the ground.
From the beginning to the end that work was safe. During the rehabilitation, the safety inspectors collaborated closely with the maintenance and production teams. The implementation period was completed without any workplace injuries being recorded.
The return of the second line will also expand the plant’s production capacity, giving LCC additional capacity to supply cement locally and meet the demand from construction and reconstruction work across Libya.
Also inspectors of the Benghazi Branch of the Social Security Fund visited the cement plants to inspect the working conditions in the production and services departments. Instead of assessing conditions on paper, the team entered the plants to observe the work and industrial risks that employees may face in various positions. The information obtained during the visit will assist in making a more accurate assessment of the working environment and identifying positions which satisfy the requirements for hazardous-work classification under the relevant laws and regulations.
Meanwhile, the second line of Hawari is being revived after more than 13 years. It’s still a slow process to get it back up, but it’s an exciting moment for everyone who’s spent time working to get the line back up and running to turn the heating flame on.
