Hard Hats Off, Football Boots On at LCC

Hard Hats Off, Football Boots On at LCC

A football pitch is giving employees at Libyan Cement Company a chance to meet outside their usual working environment.

LCC is preparing a new recreational football league for its employees, with planning already underway for the matches and the organisation behind them. The Sports Activities Supervisory Committee has started working on the league rules and practical arrangements to allow for broad participation from across LCC.

For a company with people working across different departments and production units, the league creates a chance for colleagues to spend time together in a completely different setting. Once the game begins, titles and departments matter a little less. It doesn't matter who can play, it matters who is on your team.

The social side is a big reason why LCC continues to support sporting activities. The programs bring together employees from across the company, as well as those working with partner and contracting companies, allowing colleagues who may not normally work side by side the opportunity to get to know one another.

LCC has its own five-a-side football pitch on-site which has been developed for year-round use for employee matches, competitions and other sporting activities.

Of course there is a health benefit. Sport is especially important in an industrial working environment and LCC sees sport as a way of promoting physical fitness and wellbeing and building stronger relationships between employees.

But maybe the most obvious reason to bring back the league is that work shouldn’t be the only thing that co-workers have in common.

A football pitch is an opportunity for people to compete, laugh, be together and see familiar faces in a totally different environment. While these moments may be out of the production lines, they can make a real difference in how people connect when they return to work.

Preparations are now underway to bring that spirit back to the pitch and give employees another reason to come together outside their everyday roles with LCC’s second football league.
