From Steel Installation to Power Connection. A Busy New Stage at Tosyali-SULB

Piling work is now complete and work now moves higher above ground. Steel columns and beams are going up across the site, foundations are being poured for some of the plant’s major facilities, and the first pieces of mechanical equipment are starting to be installed.
The activity is dispersed over very different parts of the future complex. Teams are working around the CDRI Passivation Silos, the seawater desalination buildings, the gas compression units and the 220 kV Substation. More steel structure is being assembled in the Reduction Area and along the Pipe Rack. The travelling wheels for the stacking equipment in the oxide storage area have also begun to be worked on.
The new 220 kV transmission line will connect Tosyali SULB to the Kogelex Power Generation Station north of Benghazi. When it’s up and running, the complex will churn out between 68 and 80 megawatts of electricity.
Much of the work to make that connection has been done already. Steel transmission towers are assembled, civil works are complete and as required, materials have been delivered. The teams have also completed the underground section of the project, which is the 650-metre cable route connecting the overhead towers to the main feeder at Kogelex.
There are currently close to a thousand engineers, technicians and workers working on the site, with several teams working in different parts of the complex at the same time.
Much of the work a few months ago was below the surface, focused on foundations. Now steel structures are going up all over the site, equipment is beginning to appear, and the power connection that will ultimately feed the plant is taking shape alongside it.
