Primary Piling Work At Benghazi Steel Complex Completed

The completion of all piling works at Tosyali SULB steel complex in Benghazi is an important milestone. The piling package is now fully completed and this is one of the largest and most important foundation stages of the project.
Once the foundations are finished, the project can move onto above ground construction and work is now taking place in several parts of the site simultaneously. Construction is moving along nicely with concrete works at 65.67% completion, backfilling at 67.41% completion and steel structure installation at over 21%.
Construction crews have been working in a few key areas the past week. Concrete columns have been poured at the Gas Compressor Building and work continues at the 220 kV Substation to prepare the foundation. Reinforcement and forming work was carried out at the Duct Bridge and TT08 Area to help prepare these sections for the next stages of construction.
Masonry work continues in the Main Control Building and Maintenance Building. Steel beams and columns are being installed in the Reduction Area, Pipe Rack and Gas Area. More permanent features of the project are starting to take shape as the cladding is being installed at the CDRI Warehouse too.
More importantly this week, we have had the installation of the Bucket Wheel Stacker and Reclaimer in the Oxide Storage area. While it may not be one of the more visible pieces of equipment, it will be a key component of the plant’s raw material handling system, moving and managing materials efficiently before they enter the production process.
Progress is also being made at other locations, away from the main construction site. The dedicated 220-kilovolt power transmission line is now about 65 percent finished. Geotechnical studies have finished and all the required route permits are received. 15 of the 22 planned steel transmission towers are already installed. When it is finished, the new power connection will connect the plant to the North Benghazi Substation, providing a reliable source of power for future operations.
Pivotal to keeping the project on schedule is the large fleet of heavy equipment, including 31 trucks, 11 cranes and 11 bulldozers, which allows several work fronts to be operated simultaneously.
The Benghazi steel complex is steadily progressing from planning to reality, with foundations now complete and progress continuing across civil works, structural steel, equipment installation and supporting infrastructure.
